Exciting announcement! Stonesoup is becoming a teenager on the 27th December, so I thought it was time to make a few changes to celebrate…

I’ve updated the tag line of my little blog.

Rather than just ‘5-Ingredient Recipes’, Stonesoup is now focusing on ‘Simple Weeknight Dinners‘.

In many ways it’s still the same.

I’ve always been all about simplicity, I’ve just decided to expand how I define ‘simple’.

Instead of only limiting the number of ingredients, Stonesoup recipes must now meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • 5-Ingredients
  • One Pot
  • 3-Steps
  • 30-Minutes or less

While I’ve been keeping the ingredients numbers, equipment and time to a minimum for years, the ‘3-Steps’ idea is a new one.

It came from a great chat with Emma, one of my playgroup friends, who told me she always looks at how many steps there are before choosing to cook a particular recipe.

Another way to define simple. Brilliant!

So to kick off this new era for Stonesoup, here are my 7 favourite 3-Step Dinners…

    The 3-step is a brilliant concept. I realize that I do actually look at recipes with lots of steps and prefer ones with less. I’m easily intimidated by lots of steps. Of course sometimes it’s just that you need to add ingredients at different times and I confess I often just merge the instructions into one step to simplify. Is that a good idea? Sometimes I’m not so sure, other times it seems to work just fine. Happy Birthday StoneSoup.

    I like it, three-step, one pot, minmal ingredients, 30 min. or less, whatever . Easy to shop, easy to prepare and lots of delicious meals. Keep up the good work. Just finished a great beef-ginger stir fry meal (the ginger was a first) and I enjoyed it very much!

    Definitely, especially if it means the difference between a hot tasty meal and scrabbling around with cheese and biscuits! Now I’m cooking just for myself I often lack the 00mph to actually cook a meal.

    I hate to see the unique name “Stonesoup” disappear. And as long as you keep adding the various substitutions for various dietary protocols, you can change anything else you want. Your recipes are unique in that respect and they aspire to be “all things to all people.”

      It took me months to come up with the name Stonesoup before I started blogging. No chance of changing that part.

    It’s a great idea. I used to love cooking but in recent years I haven’t been able to work up any enthusiasm even though I do love good food so I think that this will get me back into enjoying cooking.

    Great idea! I never make recipes that are long and involved so even if there are a few more ingredients than five but the recipe is easy to put together, it’s a win.

    I’m all for keeping it simple, but doing it the way you’ve outlined gives a bit more options without getting fussy and complicated. I also appreciate your recipe with the eggplant, as I bought one the other day and didn’t know what to do with it! :)

    You’re definitely going in the right direction! I think most people would agree to wanting to cook a delicious hot meal for their family with your 5-ingredient, one-pot, 3-steps, and 30 minutes or less recipes. People don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen or use lengthy recipes, I know I don’t! Thank you for such inspiration in the kitchen. And for all the time you put in your blog and Stonesoup recipes, meal plans, and all those ebooks you write! Not to mention your how to videos as well!?

    5 ingredients/quick meals is the reason I keep visiting StoneSoup. I would hate to start seeing 5+ ingredient recipes as that was what made your site unique…
