  • Hey Jules, the magic sausage + cabbage one was my favorite though the ‘mise en place’ tip is probably what’s made the most difference in my cooking this year. Been following your blog since 2010 and your books and approach to cooking have been a major influence on how I insert cooking for one into my days. I only cook with recipes during special occasions, but am pretty confident going without it otherwise and a lot of that is down to your site. Thanks!

    • I love your Green Saag Chicken. I’m always looking for ways to use more greens and I love curry, so this made my list of great weekday recipes; it’s quick and nourishing. I can use the greens I have on hand and it always turns out well! I enjoy your recipes. Thank you for sharing your talents.

  • I always come back to your chilli tuna, as it’s so quick and warm and tasty! Going to make a batch tonight :)

  • Little Lemon Meringue Pies! Delicious and easy with accessible ingredients. I literally have everything on hand which is key in a pinch!

  • My favorite Stonesoup recipes this year are 1) Magic Sausage Supper, 2) Crisp Beef and Balsamic Salad with Ricotta, 3) Chicken Satay Curry, 4) Lamb Cauliflower Curry, 5) Noodles with Parmesan Peas, 6) Goats Cheese and Basil Omelette. The first two are probably my all-time favorites, but I make the others fairly often.

  • It’s hard to pick one recipe as a favorite, but the best part is that you include all the variations. That way I have a base to work with and customize for my needs and what I have on hand.

  • Just downloaded the free eCookbook. Found some recipes I am definitely going to try starting with the Turkish Cauliflower Soup.

  • Hello dear Jules. My favourites in 2017 were: 1. Little almond breads (made this with two kids!), 2. Baked salmon with herb yoghurt, and 3. Ricotta gnocchi. Thanks for amazing recipe inspirations this year, and I am very much looking forward to cooking along with your weekly themes in 2018! ~ Barbara

  • Jules, I’ve loved all of your recipes because they are all so healthy. This has become particularly important to me since my husband has just been diagnosed with Type II diabetes. We are especially looking for low carb recipes, which I know you specialize in. This recipe has already been a hit: Avo on Toast with Smashed Olives & Tahini. We are both enjoying your recipes even more now!

  • It was hard to narrow it down but I think I like the ones where you hide the veggie in the recipe. Like your Zucchini Fritters and Zucchini Noodles & Pesto Salad. Also nice recipes to use up the over abundance of zucchini I get in the summer. What I also love is all the alternatives you list at the bottom of the recipe!

  • Favorite recipe of this year? Easy. Smoky Roast Mushroom Bowls. I prepare a lot of Stone Soup recipes. Simple Baked Meatballs is on frequent rotation, as is Butter Chicken Curry. Love recipes that are quick, easy and my boys gobble up. But it was the Mushrooms…that simple, elegant Smoky Roast Mushroom Bowl that won my heart. I made it one night when the boys had a sleepover at a friends house. I opened a lovely bottle of wine and wanted something simple to make for myself. What can be simpler than roasting mushrooms? What I wasn’t prepared for was the elegance of this meal – so complex and delicious! This is definitely a recipe that caught me by surprise! Well done and keep up the outstanding work!

  • One of my favorites is the Cajun Chicken in a Paper Bag with the super simple and yummy coleslaw!

  • Absolutely, hands-down, best recipe for me this year – one that my housemate insists on me cooking, that I’ve taken to shared lunches (and subsequently directed people to the website when they’ve asked for the recipe), that is simple yet so flavoursome … Quick Beef Ragu. It’s a total winner in my books, Jules!

  • One of my favorite recipes, is the Smoky Roast Mushroom Bowl. I love smoked paprika and sour cream! I only changed the walnuts for boiled eggs, and voilá! I have served this recipe for dinner many many times already! Thanks for your website and for helping us with some many good ideas.

  • Single Girl Salmon (with spinach and lentils) is my favourite dish, plus Magic Sausage Supper (partly because of the name). The other recipe was the chocolate pecan squares, which I made for an event, and people devoured both versions. I prefer the coconut one, but they’re both so tasty. Varied the nuts for variety, but oh my god, melt in your mouth (and on your fingers)!

  • Pick just one??? Okay, Chard with Tahini Yogurt. I had 15 minutes to prepare something for a potluck. I happened to have some pretty red stemmed chard, some tahini, some yogurt & some lime juice. IT was a huge hit, and I love the flavors. You’re my only cookbook. My life is so much better with you(r recipes) in it! Happy Holidays Jules.

  • My favourite for this year would definitely be Roasted Cabbage with Bacon Gremolata. Love the flavours and makes a great hearty meal with a fried egg on top.

  • I have enjoyed many of the recipes on Stonesoup,
but the best information and most useful, was how
Jules reduces a recipe to 5 ingredients, which is
    very easy to implement.

  • Really hard to choose just one, but my first choice would have to be the broccoli sandwich bread. I had just cut out carbs & sugar & thought I was going to be eating lettuce wraps for the rest of my life–until I saw this recipe. The bread is amazing yet so easy to make, just like the rest of your recipes, Jules. Thank you!

  • HI Jules,
I’ve followed you through email for years. My favorite thing is not a recipe, but having the multitude of variations available, especially now that I’m on an elimination diet.

  • ‘Chicken & Peppers’
    Love this !!
Ridiculously so easy and so yummy.
I throw in sliced onion and some chilli flakes sometimes.

  • Hi Jules. Thank you for another year of wonderful recipes. I can’t choose just one so I have these – Magic Sausage & Cabbage Supper because the flavours are incredible, Easy Spinach Feta Frittata – so easy and so tasty and Fergal’s Egg and Pea Fried Rice which has become our go to quick meal when dinner is very late. And I almost forgot Spiced Beef with Hummus which we seem to cook every week.

  • Chicken & Peppers – quick, easy, tasty and impresses everyone from the hubby to visitors. And a quick cleanup. :)

  • Chicken & Peppers – quick, easy, tasty and impresses everyone from the hubby to visitors. And a quick cleanup. :)

  • Love the raspberry mouse, try also half a cup of granola(home made) 3 spoons of greek yogurt and 3 spoons of unsweetened applesauce, MMMM add cinnamon, add fruit if you want.

  • My favourite stone soup recipe comes from the 2-minute meal planning book. I picked it up again properly this year to experiment and the household winner is….Real Veggie Burgers!!! My 18 month old loves them, they’re easy to make and there’s hardly any mess to clean up.

  • It is hard to pick one, especially as I have a tendancy to use some of the options listed to make them work for me. However, my go to for fried rice is Fergal’s Egg & Pea Fried Rice, without the peas, but with various other veggies added. It is the perfect base for so many meals

  • For me it’s a sauce – Tahini Miso Turmeric. I have to stop myself from gobbling the lot, teaspoon by teaspoon.

  • I loved your chorizo and white beans recipe. I LOOOVE chorizo, and anything featuring beans works for mr. Very tasty, and properly filling.

  • Monday evening we AGAIN enjoyed your Melt in the Mouth Savoury Cheesecake. Today we ate the cold leftover version with salad. Been making this since you published it. This recipe is a winner in our household so Savoury Cheescake is my choice for best Stonesoup recipe for 2017.

  • I prepared your Lebanese Ratatouille two weeks in a row (loved it!) and then again for my brother and his wife when I visited their house. Big hit!

  • We absolutely loved the Lebanese Roast Ratatouille. In fact, we used your suggested variation, and replaced Baharat spice with Ras-el-hanout. My husband loves this so much, that we have taken to make smaller portions of it to serve as a snacking or appetiser option!

  • I love so many of your recipes but Mushroom Toasts are a recent fave. They’re so easy to make, and eating them is “holistically” satisfying for me – they somehow feel nourishing to my mind, body, and soul :-)

    Love your work.

  • Oh the cauliflower pizza hands down. I’m vegetarian and diebetic and cauli is my new favourite anything! The first time I tried it I was hooked. Jules your recipes are so wonderfully easy to vege-tise and veganise (my daughter is allergic to everything under the sun). Love your posts. Keep it up Thalia

  • Got to be the Green Curry of Broccoli Soup – awesome, tasty, filling, nutritious, quick and easy !!!

  • I really like the egg fried rice recipe. It is simple, doesn’t require a lot of ingredients, is healthy & tastes delicious!

  • I’m all over any of your recipes with sausages (because, sausages) and any featuring Indian spices. I love that your ingredient list is short, which is not often the case with Indian food. I have a cupboard full of spices, but sometimes I want to just grab one or two and not have to fuss. Your Butter Chicken Curry is a fave of mine. I’m also happily working my way through your “Sunday Baking Sessions” ebook and am especially fond of the Honey & Almond Zucchini Cake. Yum! I’m looking forward to more great tips and recipes in 2018! Happy Holidays to all!!

  • Seriously easy Moussaka
    Green curry broccoli soup
    Chicken Saag
I could go on and on but these three are repeated winners

  • I discovered the Kung Pao Chicken Recipe this year. I was delighted by how simple and how tasty that recipe is! Simple and tasty dishes keep me coming back to this blog time and again.

  • Jules, I can honestly say you’ve changed my life! I love each and every one of your recipes and am always amazed how you know how to combine just the right ingredients for a taste sensation!
My favourite one of all that doesn’t fail to impress is the Kale, chorizo and almond combo….
I’ve already been lucky enough to win your recipe book, so I don’t mind not winning again, but still wanted to comment!
    Many thanks Suzanne

  • My favorite recipe this year was the One Pot Chicken Cauliflower and Peanut Curry. It was simple, as your recipes always are, healthy, low carb and tasty! I could prepare it from scratch or use leftover rotisserie chicken.

  • Always read your site and look forward to the recipes.
While I haven’t tried them all I like the eggplant steaks with parmesan peas and the cheese tuna & broccoli bake is a winner. So easy to prepare. I wish I had this site years ago as the recipes are simple to prepare and healthy. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more recipes and information in the New Year.

  • Cauliflower crust pizza Who is the recipe for this year that I used the most, Jules. But it’s your carrot cake from a couple of years back that I use all the time !!! Thanks for keeping my kitchen interesting !

  • The Simple Sausage Supper! I just tried roasting this in a combo microwave/convection oven. It would have turned out great – except I went outside and forgot about it until I heard the smoke alarm. So if anyone wants the variation where everything in the pan turns to blackened twigs, tell them to leave it in a convection oven for 3 hours.

  • Hi Jules! Love your blog and your recipes. I’ve been a fan for years and am starting to teach my children to cook “your way.” Simple is ALWAYS the best way! We all love Noodles with Parmesan Peas. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Hugs from America!

  • Really enjoyed the sausage & beer done in the oven. But more importantly, your cauliflower recipes have been great. I used to hate cauliflower, right from when I was a kid (I turn 70 in 2018), but your fried/roasted version has converted me. Thanks. I read your emails, print the recipes I want to try, and file the electronic version too.

  • Your lemony kale with smoked trout and almonds was a revelation — although I just keep making lemony kale and throwing in whatever I have handy!

  • STill my all time favourite is spiced beef with hummus from many moons ago and the romesco sauce -delicious -2017 The post on Secret Weapon sauces – Cashew Nut and Tahini Miso Tumeric- sublime.

  • My favourite recipe is your cumulus spiced eggs. I love the idea of baked eggs without the uncertainty of needing to bake them (and risk burning everything else). Plus it’s fast and full of all the great things.

  • I’ve bee n cooking a long time and have lots and lots of cookbooks on the shelves but nothing beats my collection of Stonesoup favourites, carefully written into my ‘My Recipes’ exercise book. Your recipes surprise us every time. They are a feast for the senses and I love putting them together for the family to enjoy. Not only are they good but they are economical. The bottom line is very important to me. I hate waste, I don’t have much time or money, and I don’t have huge kitchen storage to keep endless ingredients at my disposal. Flexible, five ingredient cooking that uses what I have is hands down fantastic cooking. And, for my favourite recipe in 2017? Well, its the orange and almond birthday cake, of course. All birthdays in this family are clustered into two months of the year and this cake has featured at all of them. Its a “can I have some more, please” cake. My ‘signature’ cake. I love how the house fills with the aroma of the oranges cooking and tells everyone that something big is happening. I love peoples delight when they take their first bite. And, I love that its good for you, easy to make, and uses the abundance of oranges on my trees. Thank you Jules for keeping cooking exciting, fun, and, simple for me. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.

  • I’m new here, I found you through a Simple Year which I start in January. So I can’t offer a favourite yet, though I’d still love to be entered into the competition. I am newly vegan so what I love so far is the alternatives you offer to help cater for different needs. That is SO helpful! Many thanks!

  • all your recipes taste greattttt but the ones on repeat are Balsamic steaks and sausages with lentils!!! keep up with the simplicity of them and the great taste in return!!

  • The Crispy Broccolini & Chickpeas with Cashew ‘Ricotta’ – was life changing for me and my husband. I make the cashew ricotta repeatedly and we have it on top of all sorts of things, mostly roast veg. Hubby asked me to stop making it as he was having too much of it, but I suggested he have it as a compliment to his food rather than slathering it all over. The Broccolini and Chickpeas are right up our alley too!

  • I love so many of your recipes! The one that’s made the biggest difference and helped keep me to a reasonable low “wheat allowance” is the Broccoli Sandwich Bread! And, as you advised, kids (in my case, grandkids) prefer it made with cauliflower. Breakfast and dinner aren’t too hard to keep wheat-free but lunch can be a challenge. Thank you for the perfect solution.

  • Just stumbled on your website as part of my 2018 planning! Looks like my family will be enjoying some tasty (and quick!) homemade meals this year. Thank you!

  • I love nearly all of your recipes! I can’t pick just one. Poaching eggs was pretty mind blowing. And putting eggs on salad? Wow.

  • Being culinarily challenged I loved the mung bean/rocket pasta recipe. Even I can’t go/didn’t go wrong with that. But truth be told, I love everything you do. Happy New Year from Tasmania.

  • Hello Jules. My favorites in 2017 were Little almond breads. Fun to do with my grand-daughter (age 5). She loves to cook. Your recipes are so healthy and to the point. Keep us inspired!
    Kathleen

  • For easy yumminess, the magic sausage supper with cabbage! Plus, the many ideas for using cauli in place of grains. And I love the variations you offer with all your recipes. Thank you!
