It’s funny that so far in the Jules & David project, most of the meals Ive made haven’t been when we’ve had people over. Given the meals are all geared towards cooking for a crowd, I’ve decided to use David as my go-to menu planner when we have guests from now on.

This Tuscan dinner was the first we had shared with guests and it went down smashingly! Especially when said guests were of the wine cellaring variety and generously shared a vertical tasting of a favourite Aussie Shriaz.

Green Lasagne with Greens

Although I own a pasta maker, its rare for me to make pasta – a once or twice a year affair. So I really enjoyed making my first ever vegetarian lasagne. And this was a winner. We all loved the comforting simplicity of the greens + cheese + pasta equation. I still have the leftovers in tbge freezer and am saving them for a special occasion!

Bistecca with Fried Artichokes and Potatoes

Normally I wouldnt follow up lasagne with a big serve of meat, but with out big big wines this ended up being brilliant. The simple grilled beef served with lemon and rocket reminded me of my first trip to Tuscany. A classic for a good reason – so delicious.

Unfortunately there were no artichokes in the markets so we ended up with plain fried potatoes. While my Irishman was happy, I found sauteeing the potatoes to be way more of a hassle than roasting and found the end product a little lacking in crispy goodness. Next time I’ll trust my judgement and just roast my spuds. But as I’ve found so far, its always good to try someone elses methods.

Castagnccia

I couldn’t believe my deli was all out of chestnut flour as Ive always wanted to experiment with baking with it… Another time!

Our simple dessert of Vanilla Roast Pears and Double Cream was a fitting substitute. I didn’t hear any complaints!
