Are You Getting Enough Fiber?

[dropcap style=”font-size: 60px; color: #00adef;”] W[/dropcap]hen I started experimenting with paleo and low carb eating I worried about my fiber.

Without ‘healthy’ whole grains where would I get my roughage?

The answer is veggies, nuts and seeds.

So I didn’t notice a change in the ‘number 2’ department.

Thank heavens.

However, recently I wondered what would happen if I ate more fiber.

So like any good food scientist, I decided to do an experiment on myself…

The Great Stonesoup Fiber Experiment of 2018

First I tracked my poos for a week using the My Symptoms App.

After I had my base line reading, I started having a teaspoon of linseeds (flax seeds) every afternoon with some home made yoghurt.

And of course kept up with my tracking…

The result?

Much more ‘regular’ from both a timing and consistency perspective.

As my favourite book on the matter (What’s Your Poo Telling You) would say, lots more ‘pooforia’.

The extra fiber definitely made a difference.

Win!

What about you?

Do you think you’re getting enough fiber?

Have you considered doing an experiment?

I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.

Have fun in the kitchen (and bathroom)!

With love,
Jules x

  • I often just mix a teaspoon of Chia and linseeds in a glass of water and leave then the sit for a while and then chug them down. Adding a squeeze of lemon or lime does make them taste better

    • You know I think I’ll stick to my linseeds and yoghurt Trace – can imagine the water option would be a bit on the slimy side!
      Thanks for sharing :)

  • This might be a stupid question, but couldn’t this be due to the probiotics from the yogurt as well?

    • No such thing as a stupid question!

They definitely would help Elisabeth – I should do another experiment with just the extra fiber and no probiotics :)
