Your Mental Health

I didn’t know this…

Did you know that 50% of our Dopamine and 90% of our Seratonin (our feel good brain chemicals) are produced in the gut?

Me neither.

Until I interviewed Dr Betsy Greenleaf a menopause specialist for my podcast back in August.

After talking to Dr Betsy and her recommendation to focus on gut health to help reduce menopause symptoms I’ve been gently experimenting with making some tiny changes to my eating habits.

And the delightfully surprising side benefit has been the improvement in my mental health.

For the past few years I’ve been having good days and more and more bad days where I feel a low level of anxiety the whole day.

And then there’s been the big freak out anxious days.

Yuck.

It hasn’t been debilitating but there’s been a cloud that has lifted in the last 3 months since I started my gut health experiments.

Not only that,

But I’ve been getting my brother (who has been on meds for bipolar for over 20 years) to make some tiny tweaks to his food habits in addition to his meds…

And he’s noticing a difference as well.

When he told his psychiatrist about it she said “Jules is a genius!”

I love Dr Lowden.

So if your (or a loved one) has less than optimal mental health and you’d like to try some tiny experiments to see if it helps…
