Top 11 Best Sauce Recipes

best sauce recipes

What would the world be like without sauce? Especially these top 11 best sauce recipes.

Recently, my not-so-little brother and I were discussing this very question. We agreed that a world without sauce would be a dismal place indeed.

Terms like ‘devoid of sauce’, ‘sauceless’, and ‘un-saucy’ were bandied about. Not exactly a pretty picture.

So today I wanted to have a little ‘celebration of sauce’ and share with you my top 11 favourite sauces.

My 11 Best Sauce Recipes

1. Amazing Avo Sauce

This *Amazing* Avo Sauce not only lives up to its name from a flavour perspective, it’s also great for extending the shelf life of your precious avocados.

2. Home Made Hummus

While you can buy commercial hummus, I usually make my own because it tastes so much fresher. Here’s my simple hummus recipes which only takes 5-10 minutes. Worth the effort!

3. Almond ‘Hummus’

So one day when I was craving hummus and didn’t have much time, I had the brain flash to try making something with almond meal. So glad I did! You can use this creamy sauce anywhere you’d normally use hummus. As a dip, as a sauce, or as a low carb alternative to mashed potato.

4. Tomato Almond Pesto

Years ago I made a tomato almond pesto for a Maltese friend. She was skeptical but after the first bite decided it was better than regular pesto – I know. It’s a big call!

5. Peanut & Lime Sauce

This Peanut & Lime sauce was one of those that took a few attempts to perfect. Partially because I had so many ideas to try. And partly because I wanted an excuse to keep eating more peanut butter! It’s amazing here with chicken and broccoli (if I do say so myself).

6. Easy Coriander (Cilantro) Hot Sauce

While this hot sauce is amazing here with fish, I also love it with chicken or pork or anything with avocado.

8. Avocado ‘Hummus’

You heard it here first. Think creamy hummus where the chickpeas are replaced by even creamier avocado to give a gorgeous pale green cloud. Use anywhere you’d normally use regular hummus.

9. Tahini Sauce

I may be more than slightly obsessed with tahini. It’s just so delicious. Especially when used as a creamy balance to a spicy tomato sauce like in this simple chicken dish.

10. Parsley Walnut Salsa

This salsa is a chunky sauce that comes together so easily. Just chop parsley and roast walnuts and bring it together with a nice peppery extra virgin olive oil and a little lemon juice. Feel free to swap the herbs and nuts for whatever you are in the mood for. Pine nuts and basil are good as are mint and almond.

11. Stick Blender Mayonnaise

While I’m not adverse to using commercial mayonnaise, home made is so much better because you can choose the quality of your oil. This stick blender mayo is my all time fave – no scary stirring – just pop everything in a jar and blitz with a stick blender. You won’t believe how easy it is.

  • My favorite sauce is all veg plus some white vinegar. 2 bell peppers, 1 small onion, 5 or so cloves of garlic, 5 serrano peppers or similar, and 3/4 cup of white vinegar. Roughly chop, boil for 15 minutes or so, let cool, then blend. Oh my. I put this on everything.
